Comments of wow you're so skinny, or that dress is amazing, tells the on looker that they are pleased by the outward appearance of someone. It does not divulge anything about how the person you are looking at feels. The face was intentionally left out of this portrait to leave it ambiguous as to not give clues on how the woman was feeling, or thinking. Without expression she remains a pretty object hung on a wall. There is a slight texture on the face itself leaving the viewer wondering what lies beneath the surface
