This series of fused Coral Plates are made with Mariner Blue Oceanside glass.
Each piece of coral was designed first using thin strips of glass that look the same size as fettuccini noodles. The artist takes these noodle like glass and hand breaks each piece and designs the coral. This coral is then fired at a high temperature to allow the glass to melt flat becoming one piece. Next, the base is made using clear and Mariner blue glass. Once the base is cut it is layered with the coral and then fused again to a high temperature to achieve a flat surface in which the glass is all combined. Finally the piece goes into the kiln for one last time on a mold. This time the glass is heated to a lower temperature than before to allow it to gently “slump” into its final place as a dish.
Each dish is hand made. If buying more than one they will nest into each other to allow for stacking in a cabinet. Each coral is slightly different based on the artists intent.
Each plate measures 6” square, lip rises 3/4” from tabletop, and is 6mm thick
