kiln carved lotus
This ornament was kiln pressed. Each ornament I make is cut from sheet glass arranged and then fired into the kiln to a temperature between 1200-1500°F. This orament was fired using 2 sheets of glass on top of fiber paper. I cut the fiber paper and arranged it on the kiln shelf in the shape of a lotus flower. I then placed 2 sheets of glass one clear, one green on top. From there I ran my kiln slowly up to 1500°F and then slowly cooled it back to room temp. This left the lotus flower indented into the glass “kiln pressed”
This ornament is not only beautiful on the tree, or in a window, it is fun to hold in your hand and feel the flower. The lotus flower is a symbol of purity and rebirth a perfect choice as we begin a new year.
